There is a story that monks in Italy or Germany long ago began making pretzels as a way to help teach children how to pray by rolling out strips of dough and shaping it to look like a child crossing their hands in prayer. Pretzels were given to children who had memorized their prayers. Rev. J.C. Mitchel, Minister of Christian Education at Queen Anne Baptist Church in Seattle, has been baking pretzels with children for many years to teach The Lord's Prayer during Holy Week. Since he can't work with children in person, he made this video for all children who are staying at home to learn how to make pretzels. He invites you to learn to bake pretzels during this stay at home time and Holy Week and to share pictures of your pretzels. Have fun learning!
