The Addie Davis Scholarships provide essential financial support for Baptist women enrolled in seminary, helping them pursue their calling to ministry and leadership. Named in honor of Rev. Addie Davis, the first woman ordained to pastoral ministry by a Southern Baptist Church in 1964, this scholarship continues her legacy by empowering female leaders in the Baptist tradition.
Eligibility Requirements
To be considered for the Addie Davis Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

Be female and a member of a Baptist church (any Baptist denominational affiliation is acceptable).

Be enrolled full-time in a Master’s-level program (MDiv, MA, MTS, etc.) or a Doctor of Ministry (DMin) program at an ATS-accredited seminary or divinity school. Applicants graduating before the fall 2025 academic term are not eligible.

Demonstrate a clear sense of calling to ministry and leadership within Baptist communities and provide supporting evidence.
Scholarship Awards

The minimum scholarship award is $2,000.

A maximum of six scholarships will be awarded.

Scholarship recipients will be publicly announced by May 15, 2025.
Application Requirements
Candidates must submit the following materials:
1. Two Statements Relating to Your Calling as a Baptist Woman

Statements may be submitted in either written or video format.

Written Format: Each statement must be 500 words or less.

Video Format: Each statement must be no longer than two minutes.

Video submissions can be directly uploaded in .mp4 format through the online application or shared via YouTube or Google Drive. Applicants must provide a link to their uploaded video in a Word document.
2. Two Reference Letters

First Reference Letter: Must be from a leader in your Baptist church who can verify your church membership and speak to your calling and ministry.

Second Reference Letter: Must be from a faculty or staff member at your seminary who can attest to your commitment and potential for ministry in a Baptist context.
3. Unofficial Transcript

Unofficial transcripts should be obtained from the applicant’s school registrar.

If the applicant has earned credits at a seminary or divinity school, they should submit that transcript.

If beginning seminary in the fall 2025 academic term, an unofficial undergraduate transcript should be submitted instead.

Selected recipients' enrollment will be verified before scholarship funds are disbursed to their institution.
